Unblock Your Fertility Chi: How Acupuncture Is Performed to Get Things Going

Most people can go their entire lives without wanting or needing anything for fertility problems. This is because they do not have fertility problems. Those people who do have an issue with becoming pregnant go to great lengths to become pregnant (or to impregnate), sometimes spending tens of thousands of dollars.

There is a less expensive way of treating infertility, and it involves acupuncture. When acupuncture is used to treat a specific problem, the needles go in specific places to unblock the chi that seems to be blocked to that area. If you would like to try fertility acupuncture but you are concerned about the process, here is how the procedure is performed.

Lower Back and Sacrum

For starters, you should know that the needles used in acupuncture are extremely fine. They are nothing like the needles used to administer medication or used to draw blood. These needles are exceedingly thin, and almost appear to be willowy and wispy. You can barely feel them as they enter the skin.

The acupuncturist pinches a small fold in the skin and then inserts the needle. Usually, you are so distracted by the pinching you never feel these tiny needles as they are pushed through. For any sexual or reproduction issues, the acupuncturist will insert the needles in the very lower back, sacrum, and near the coccyx (tail bone). This is supposedly the area where the chi energy controls all reproductive organs and sensations to the penis, scrotum, labia, and vagina. In truth, this ancient practice was not too far off because the nerves in the spine that send signals to and from the reproductive and human waste production organs are in the very lower part of the back and buttocks end of the spine.

Genitals

Some acupuncturists may also insert a couple of needles into the genital region. These couple of needles usually only go into the scrotum and/or the perineal area between the scrotum or vaginal opening and the anus. It all depends on your acupuncturist and the types and severity of the fertility issues you and your partner are experiencing.

Abdomen

Women who are having fertility problems and who want to become pregnant may also have additional fertility acupuncture treatments where the needles are inserted into the abdomen. If this applies to your situation, you can choose to see the needles before, during, and after insertion, or a curtain can be draped vertically above your midsection so that you cannot see the needles. The needles inserted in your abdomen supposedly change the messages sent to the brain, altering the hormones that will help you get and keep a pregnancy in the womb.
